About
A small Ipswich consultancy advising broadcasters and live event producers since 2011.
How tickerzi came to be
tickerzi began in Ipswich in 2011 as a one-person practice. Richard Hollis wanted to give producers and technical directors advice that was precise, independent and easy to follow. Fifteen years on, it is a team of three.
Richard spent his early career in television studio engineering, working on layouts, wiring and control rooms. He saw how often good equipment was undermined by poor planning, and how rarely anyone outside the engineering team understood why.
That gap shaped the business. In 2011 he set up tickerzi to advise on studio design in a way that connected the plan on paper to the daily reality of a crew working against a clock.
Over the years the scope widened. Camera control, lighting and audio each turned out to depend on decisions made at design stage, so we brought in specialists rather than treat them as afterthoughts.
Priya Nair now leads our lighting and camera advice, and Daniel Whitcombe reviews audio chains and production workflows. Richard continues to lead studio design and takes part in most projects.
We are based at 14 Quay Wharf Road in Ipswich and work with television networks and live event companies. Our aim has stayed the same: advice that engineers trust and producers can understand.
What we stand for
Clarity
We explain technical choices in plain language and put recommendations in writing. A producer and a vision engineer should both be able to read our advice and agree on what it means.
Reliability
Live production leaves little room for surprises. We favour proven approaches, check the details twice and say openly where a risk remains, so you can plan around it.
Craft
Good broadcast work is in the small decisions: cable labelling, monitor placement, how a fixture is focused. We give these the attention they deserve and value the skills of the crews we advise.
The experience behind our advice
Our advice comes from hands-on experience rather than theory. Richard has more than twenty years in television studio engineering, and Priya and Daniel bring specialist knowledge of lighting, camera control, audio and live workflows.
We work with television networks and live event producers, from planning a new studio to reviewing how an existing gallery operates. Projects vary in size, and we describe the scope and cost clearly before work begins.
We are consultants, not equipment sellers. Our recommendations are based on what suits your production, space and budget, and we say plainly when a simpler or cheaper option will do the job well.
Each engagement ends with a written report. It sets out what we looked at, what we found and what we recommend, ordered by priority so your team can decide what to tackle first.
If you would like to know whether we are the right fit, the simplest step is to describe your situation through the contact page. We will tell you honestly whether we can help.
