Practical guidance for studios and live productions
We advise television networks and live event producers on studio layout, camera control, lighting, sound and the workflows that connect them, in plain technical terms that crews can act on.
- Studio design and cable routing advice
- Camera, lighting and audio specialists
- Workflow reviews for live television
Five areas of broadcast production, one consistent approach
Our work covers the physical studio, the equipment that captures pictures and sound, and the way a crew uses it on air. Here are three places where clients most often ask us to start.
Broadcast Studio Design
Floor plans, cable routing and control room placement planned around how your programmes are actually made, so the space works for presenters and crew alike.
Camera Control Systems
Help choosing, configuring and integrating camera control and shading for multi-camera productions, so matching and adjustment stay manageable during a show.
Live Event Workflow Planning
A review of signal flow, communications and crew roles before a live show, aimed at finding the weak points while there is still time to fix them.
The spaces and equipment our advice applies to
These scenes show the kinds of rooms, rigs and desks we spend our time in. Each one reflects a part of the work: planning the space, setting the light, balancing the sound and keeping a show running.

Studio floor with camera positions
Camera positions, set placement and walking routes are decided together on the plan. Getting them right early avoids cable clashes and awkward moves once a presenter and crew are on the floor.

Overhead lighting grid
Fixtures are chosen and placed to give consistent colour and a workable look for each camera angle, while keeping focusing and maintenance practical for the people who operate the rig.

Vision control desk
Camera control and shading are set up so one engineer can match several cameras reliably. We look at monitoring, labelling and the layout of the desk as much as at the equipment.

Audio mixing console
We review the audio chain from microphone to output, covering console choice, monitoring and gain structure, so the sound engineer has headroom and clear control during live programmes.

Cable routing and patch bay
Tidy, labelled routing makes faults quicker to trace and changes safer to make. Planning cable paths and patching early saves considerable time on installation and on show days.

Live event gallery
For live events we map signal flow, talkback and crew roles so everyone knows who calls what. A clear gallery layout keeps decisions quick when a show is under way.

An Ipswich consultancy built around studio craft
tickerzi was founded in 2011 by Richard Hollis, who has worked in television studio engineering for over twenty years. From our base on Quay Wharf Road in Ipswich, three specialists cover studio design, lighting, camera control, audio and workflow. We advise television networks and live event producers, and we aim to explain technical choices clearly enough that producers and engineers can decide together with confidence.
AboutFrom first enquiry to a clear plan
Every engagement begins with a conversation about your production and ends with written advice you can act on. The steps below show how that usually unfolds.
Enquiry
You contact us through the contact page with a short description of the studio, event or problem. We read it and reply to arrange a conversation about what you need.
Scoping call
We talk through your programmes, equipment, crew and timescale. This lets us confirm which of our specialists should be involved and what the work will and will not cover.
Written quotation
We send a written quotation describing the scope, what is included and what could change the price. Work starts once you have confirmed it in writing.
Review and advice
We study plans, equipment lists or workflows, visiting the site where useful. Our advice is practical and specific, set out so your own team can follow it.
Report and follow-up
You receive a written report with recommendations in priority order. We stay available to answer questions as your team puts the advice into practice.
